Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year Keena and her grandparents on her first Chinese New Year Yesterday the students arrived at school to beautiful Chinese decorations. Ms. Mel came in early to share her family Chinese New Year traditions with our classes. She read books, showed the students pictures of her and Keena in China, celebrating the very important cultural holiday. We counted to 10 in Mandarin, created paper snakes for the year of the snake, and ate traditional New Year foods: nuts, dried fruit, tangerines, and delicious homemade dumplings. It was quite a treat for us all. THANK YOU, Mel and Keena, for sharing your family traditions with us. We learned how to say "Happy Chinese New Year!" Ms. Mel read two books about the New Year. We saw pictures of Mel, Keena and their extended family in China. We got to hand around Keena's handmade Chinese slippers. The tangerines and dumplings were delicious!
