Rocks, rocks, rocks....!
Rocks, rocks, rocks....! Hannah, from VINS, visited again last week and taught us all about rocks. We found out that rocks come in a rainbow of colors! We got a chance to examine both rough and polished rocks of various colors, sizes, and shapes. The kids made wishes while holding a Wishing Rock (a rock with a stripe all the way through). We examined rocks and used tools to figure out different properties of rocks and how to tell some apart. All crystals have 6 sides. Some rocks are magnetized. You can write on tile with some rocks. Most rocks sink but some float! Floating rocks come from volcanoes, but not all rocks that come from volcanoes float. After making observations, describing, and experimenting with rocks, we took a walk outside to find different kinds of rocks. Sitting and jumping on rocks to name a few (not so scientific but a whole lot of fun)! It was fun to share the rocks that everyone found. Yes... we were looking for rocks, but who can resist a tree that is...
