VINS: Demolition

Image
VINS: Demolition Hannah, from VINS, visited last week and taught a STEM lesson on demolition. They discussed and ran experiments on object that were soft, hard, heavy and light. They tried to figure out if a "wrecking ball" would be more successful when swinging down from a lower or higher position. The students also learned how to work with a partner, sharing, waiting for their turn, and communicating with eachother. And of course, there was a ton of laughing and fun to be had. Hard Objects Soft Objects Both hard and soft Wrecking Ball:  Which "wrecking ball" (light, soft sponges, hard, heavier blocks...) is able to knock down the tower of blocks? Does it matter how the block building is built? Are there stronger, more stable ways to build the block tower? What happens when the wrecking ball doesn't have far to swing? ...and so many more questions were being worked out through experimenting.
